Gum disease is often painless until it's advanced, which is why so much of it goes untreated.

How we treat it
We measure the depth of the pockets around each tooth to establish how far the disease has progressed, then carry out deep cleaning below the gumline — often over more than one appointment, with local anaesthetic where needed.
After the active phase, most patients move onto a maintenance schedule of more frequent cleans. Gum disease is managed rather than cured, and the maintenance is what protects the teeth long term.
Why it matters beyond your mouth
Untreated gum disease destroys the bone that holds teeth in place — which also complicates implant treatment later. Poor gum health is associated with several general health conditions, and it's a strong reason to deal with it now rather than later.
