Who implants suit

Most of our implant patients have been putting it off for one to three years. A tooth came out, they adapted around it, and now a second tooth is failing, a denture has become uncomfortable, or a photo has made them think about it again.

An implant is a titanium post placed into the jaw that supports a crown, bridge or denture. Unlike a bridge, it doesn't require cutting down the healthy teeth on either side.

  • A single missing tooth
  • Several missing teeth in one area
  • A failing bridge or an uncomfortable partial denture
  • A tooth that needs removing and replacing
  • Difficulty chewing on one side

The process

What actually happens, step by step

The process runs over several months because the bone needs time to bond to the implant. Here's the sequence.

  1. 1. Assessment and imaging

We examine the site and take the imaging needed to check bone volume and the position of nerves and sinuses.

  2. 2. Written treatment plan

You get the recommended approach, the timeframe, the total cost including any grafting, and the payment options — in writing, to take home.

  3. 3. Extraction, if needed

If the tooth is still there and failing, it's removed and the site is allowed to heal.

  4. 4. Implant placement

The post is placed under local anaesthetic. Most people describe it as more straightforward than the extraction that preceded it.

  5. 5. Healing

Typically 3–6 months while the bone integrates with the implant. A temporary tooth can usually be worn during this time.

  6. 6. The final crown

Once integrated, we fit the abutment and the crown, matched to your surrounding teeth. From here it's cleaned and checked like a normal tooth.

Implant, bridge or denture — an honest comparison

An implant replaces the root as well as the tooth, so it doesn't rely on the neighbouring teeth and helps preserve the bone in the gap. It costs the most and takes the longest.

A bridge is faster and cheaper, but requires the healthy teeth on each side to be cut down to hold it. A partial denture is the least expensive and removable, but many patients find it less comfortable and less stable when eating.

We'll go through all three for your specific situation and quote what's appropriate, not just the most expensive option.

Everything at one practice

Surgical and restorative treatment is carried out at our Endeavour Hills practice, with endodontic and oral surgery treatment available here too. Same reception team, same file, same address from the first appointment to the final crown.

For patients in Melbourne's south-east that usually means no drive to the city, no second waiting room and no re-explaining your history to someone new.

If you've avoided the dentist for years

A lot of implant patients tell us they're embarrassed about the state of their mouth. We're not here to lecture you about how it got that way — we're here to work out what to do next.

You can book an assessment purely to find out where you stand, with no obligation to proceed.
