Implants
What a dental implant actually costs in Melbourne's south-east — and what's included
Published 10 February 2026

A single dental implant with a crown generally starts from around $6,000 in Melbourne's south-east. That figure moves depending on the condition of the site, whether a tooth still needs removing, and whether the bone needs building up first.
The more useful question isn't "how much" but "how much for what". Two quotes that look thousands apart are often quoting different amounts of work.
What a complete implant quote should include
Ask for these line items specifically:
- Consultation, examination and the imaging used to plan the case
- The implant fixture itself and its surgical placement
- The abutment — the connector between the implant and the crown
- The final crown, including laboratory fees
- Review appointments through the healing period
What often sits outside the headline price
Extraction of the failing tooth, bone grafting, a sinus lift, or a temporary tooth to wear while the implant integrates. None of these are hidden costs when they're disclosed up front — they only become a problem when they appear halfway through.
Ask any practice to put the whole sequence in writing before you decide, including anything they suspect may be needed.
Paying for it
Some private health extras policies contribute towards components of implant treatment, and the benefit varies widely between funds. Bring your fund details and ask for an out-of-pocket estimate before committing.
Payment plans through providers like Humm and AfterPay can spread the cost; approval criteria and provider terms apply.
