Medicare CDBS: is your child eligible for bulk-billed dental?
Published 21 April 2026

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a Medicare program that provides a capped benefit towards basic dental services for eligible children aged 2 to 17.
Who's eligible
Broadly, a child qualifies if they're the right age, are eligible for Medicare, and the family receives certain government payments such as Family Tax Benefit Part A for at least part of the year. Services Australia confirms eligibility.
You don't have to work it out yourself. Give us your child's Medicare details and we'll check both eligibility and the remaining balance before the appointment.
What it covers
Basic dental services, including:
- Examinations and x-rays
- Cleans and fluoride application
- Fissure sealants
- Fillings
- Root canals and extractions
What it doesn't cover
Orthodontic treatment such as braces and clear aligners, cosmetic dental work, and any services provided in hospital are excluded.
Using the benefit
The benefit is capped over a two calendar year period and unused amounts generally don't roll over indefinitely — so it's worth using rather than saving.
